Spatial localisation of EEG dipoles in MRI using the 10-20 International System anatomical references

چکیده
This paper presents a method to locate EEG dipoles (recorded using the 10-20 International System of Electrode Placement) on the patient’s MRI. The 10-20 anatomical landmarks are identified on the MRI with the help of a surface rendering and the dipole position provided by the BESA software is transferred into MRI coordinates. As a difference with other methods, no external markers are necessary. The results on eight treatment refractory epileptic patients show that this approach improves the information provided by the BESA program, locating the dipole on its anatomical source.

Background: To date, several imaging techniques to track stem cells are used such as positron emission tomography (PET), single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), Bioluminescence imaging (BLI), fluorescence imaging, CT scan and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Although, overall sensitivity of MRI compared to SPECT and Bioluminescence techniques are lower, but due to high spatial reso...
متن کاملBenefit of simultaneous recording of EEG and MEG in dipole localization.
PURPOSE In this study, we tried to show that EEG and magnetoencephalography (MEG) are clinically complementary to each other and that a combination of both technologies is useful for the precise diagnosis of epileptic focus. METHODS We recorded EEGs and MEGs simultaneously and analyzed dipoles in seven patients with intractable localization-related epilepsy. MEG dipoles were analyzed by using...

Electroencephalography (EEG) has enjoyed considerable attention over the past century and has been applied for diagnosis of epilepsy, stroke, traumatic brain injury and other disorders where 3D localization of electrical activity in the brain is potentially of great diagnostic value. In this study we evaluate the precision and accuracy of spatial localization of electrical activity in the brain...
متن کاملA review on EEG based brain computer interface systems feature extraction methods
The brain – computer interface (BCI) provides a communicational channel between human and machine. Most of these systems are based on brain activities. Brain Computer-Interfacing is a methodology that provides a way for communication with the outside environment using the brain thoughts. The success of this methodology depends on the selection of methods to process the brain signals in each pha...
متن کاملEEG Based Brain Computer Interface Hand Grasp Control: Feature Extraction Method MTCSP
Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) are communication systems, which enable users to send commands to computers by using brain activity only; this activity being generally measured by Electroencephalography (EEG). BCIs are generally designed according to a pattern recognition approach, i.e., by extracting features from EEG signals, and by using a classifier to identify the user’s mental state from...
